We held the first HL BaSE Catalyst workshop in the U.S. in the Big Apple on 17th May 2018 at our New York office.
Our attorneys joined with IBM attorneys to provide advice to four social entrepreneurs concerning legal issues pertaining to privacy, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) policy, corporate matters, governance, tax, equity compensation, employment, and IP (copyright protection and infringement, trademarks, and patent protection). Seven Hogan Lovells lawyers and six IBM in-house counsel participated in the workshop.
We provided legal advice to the following four social enterprises:
- Fairtrasa a global social enterprise that empowers small-scale farmers to lift themselves out of poverty through giving farmers the training, resources, and direct market access they need to become Organic producers and independent agro-entrepreneurs.
- GrantAnswers, an NYC-based consulting firm and social enterprise focused on helping students earn top scholarships and career opportunities through partnerships with school systems, community-based organizations, and colleges/universities.
- Keap, a Public Benefit Corporation and B Corp that produces scented candles using the purest, most sustainable materials possible and supports the distribution of solar lamps to communities in need.
- Landit, a personalized playbook enabling women to better succeed in the workplace by offering access to world class experts, resources, tools, coaching and opportunities.
We were also thrilled to have Rick Alexander, Head of Legal Policy at B Lab, speak on benefit corporation law and related governance matters
We are happy to have worked with IBM to provide substantive legal advice to answer social entrepreneurs’ legal questions, helping them make informed decisions and take action.
