Hogan Lovells hosted a HL BaSE Catalyst workshop in Amsterdam in collaboration with Ashoka Netherlands and FASE Benelux.
4 inspiring social entrepreneurs joined 4 lawyers from ABM Amro and Generali and 10 Hogan Lovells volunteers lawyers.
The social enterprises supported during this pro bono legal workshop included:
- Salt Farm Texel which works on food security in developing countries by turning salt affected areas into productive farmland;
- Twenty, a company working to reduce water and plastic consumption in shampoo capsules and bottles; and
- SCOPEinsight which provides a standardized, scalable, efficient, data-driven way to professionalize farmer organizations in emerging economies.
Feedback from the social entrepreneurs was that the lawyers' advice helped them "make things less complicated than they thought they were" whilst at the same time it was a good occasion to "empower themselves" by having a clearer view of the legal challenges ahead of them.
The volunteers really enjoyed the opportunity to meet such interesting and motivating social entrepreneurs and felt that their legal skills were relevant and useful in flagging some of the legal challenges that could have an impact on the businesses who attended.
