Hogan Lovells partner and host, Leo von Gerlach, recently caught up with Sol Savchuk, Founding CEO of Telehelp Ukraine, in an episode of The Influencers, a Hogan Lovells podcast series dedicated to discussing all things digital transformation and law.
Telehelp Ukraine provides free quality medical and mental health support to Ukrainians affected by the war through telemedicine services from a global network of clinicians, interpreters, and volunteers with a focus on patient advocacy and care coordination.
The organisation was established a few days after the war in Ukraine began, starting on Standford University's campus. The co-founders, students at the time, combined their software and medical backgrounds to set up the remote service, which has now grown to a team of 120 providers. Hogan Lovells have been supporting Telehelp Ukraine on a Pro Bono basis in the US and in Germany.
“I think there are so many ways to support because I do believe that this is a fight for truth. This is a fight for what's right. This is a fight for the future of humanity.”
Solomiia Savchuk, CEO, Telehelp Ukraine
Leo and Sol discussed the challenges to the organisation during the time of its foundation, including language barriers and local customs and healthcare practices, the things that motivate volunteers to join the mission, and the task of linking the service to the existing healthcare system in Ukraine.
