We've been advising the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) on its film of the life of environmental powerhouse, Sir David Attenborough, available on Netflix from 4 October.
The UN Biodiversity Summit started this week to discuss the rapid depletion of nature and biodiversity. The World Economic Forum released their report titled, New Nature Economy Report II: The Future of Nature and Business which calculated one million species are at risk of extinction and that nature underpins 55 percent of global GDP. Despite this outlook, it has been forecasted that nature-positive transitions could generate up to US$10.1 trillion in annual business value and create 395 million jobs by 2030.
Financial institutions such as HSBC, Allianz, and Axa are among 26 organizations calling for worldwide governments to reach an agreement to protect our ecosystem. Against that background, and in preparation for the Summit, we have been working with WWF on its collaboration with Netflix for a natural history series Our Planet, and the related film of the life of world-renowned environmental scientist, David Attenborough.
We advised WWF on the terms of their collaboration with Netflix and on the terms of distribution of the film by Netflix and cinemas worldwide. The team included partner Sheri Jeffrey (M&A, Los Angeles), senior knowledge lawyer Penny Thornton (IPMT, London), and Philip Harle (Tax, London).
