GiveMeTap: A thirst for doing good

Innovation and good citizenship are two fundamental elements that make Hogan Lovells, "Hogan Lovells". And these two elements are also at the heart of GiveMeTap – a pro bono client we support through our social enterprise practice.

HL BaSE provides pro bono and 'low bono' legal services to social enterprises. HL BaSE is unique because of the extensive nature and quality of the support it provides. As well as our legal advice, we seek to collaborate with our corporate clients where possible, and look for ways to introduce social enterprise into the Hogan Lovells' purchasing supply chain.

To date, we have provided pro bono legal assistance to GiveMeTap in relation to matters such as corporate structuring and investment.  Also, GiveMeTap is one of the social enterprises we support as part of our apprentice challenge - where Hogan Lovells teams take over stalls at Whitecross Street market for a day to sell social enterprise products, to raise awareness of their social missions and raise funds for the organisations. For the last two years the firm has successfully sold GiveMeTap water bottles to both members of the public and to staff, and the products have made a big impact. The branding and bottles themselves have become very visible around the office, and our people have embraced GiveMeTap's mission to support developing countries to get access to clean drinking water for life.

Helen Boniface, a Senior Associate and proud owner of a GiveMeTap bottle, says:

"My GiveMeTap bottle is the perfect size to keep in my bag whenever I'm out and about.  Rather than carrying round litres of water like a military endurance test, the convenience of being able to use an App to refill for free is great – saving the environment, money and bag space… and that's even before considering the wider social impact of this innovative organisation".

We continue to be inspired by GiveMeTap, and feel privileged to be a small part of its enormous journey. Every bottle purchased gives five years of clean water to a person in Africa. We'll drink to that.
