Over 160 lawyers and clients across EMEA came together in our London office, for our mini MBA style program teaching financial and commercial skills through an impact lens, in order to understand the relevance of social and environmental impact to all of our clients.

During the two-day course, facilitated by the HL BaSE faculty, attendees heard from Claudine Blamey (Head of Sustainability Aviva)Saker Nusseibeh CBE (CEO Hermes Fund Managers) and Paul Lindley OBE, and Dr Andrew Bastawrous OBE (CEO Peek Vision), as well as colleagues from our EMEA network. There were insightful discussions covering a range of topics, including:

  • What role do businesses play to tackle the rapidly advancing climate crisis
  • How can lawyers use their skills and expertise as a force for good
  • How do we best advise our clients and sustainability issues

As a core part of the program, our lawyers are collaborating to support 32 impact ventures from 7 countries across EMEA with free legal advice for up to six months.

HL BaSE reflects our belief that business should be a force for good. In line with delivering on our commitments to being a responsible business, the program uses our legal expertise to support the communities in which we work. Through HL BaSE, we envision a market where every business has a purpose and accessing legal support is not a barrier to maximising the positive social impact created by that purpose.
